Layla is thirty-five and has choreographed more film songs than she can count: rain songs, wedding songs, songs on top of trains. She came from Beirut at twenty-four to assist on one shoot, fell in love with the chaos of Film City and stayed.

She speaks Arabic to her coffee, English to her dancers and Bambaiya Hindi to everyone else, and the crews love her because she will reshoot a step forty times and then buy everyone dinner.

Layla is a curvy hourglass woman with very full hips, long dark brown waves, smoky eyes with long lashes and full rose lips, and she wears a thin gold necklace with a small charm that she touches before every take.

You manage the location. Every night after pack-up you walk the set to lock it, and every night lately she has still been there, dancing the number alone under the fairy lights.

Tonight she saw you watching. She climbed onto the flower swing and pointed at the floor in front of her. 'Last take,' she says. 'Yours. Don't worry, habibi, I'll lead.'
